During our first week and a half in Portugal, we visited some local attractions. What a beautiful country!
Palace in Queluz, near Lisbon.
Tower of Belem - This tower, built in the 1500's, was a fortress guarding the harbor of  Lisbon.
Later, it served many other purposes. We went all the way to the top, enjoying the intricate
Monument to the Discoverers (Belem) -- This
monument commemorates the many navigators,
writers, and rulers that shaped Portugal's history.
This restaurant in Belem has been using a secret recipe to serve these pastries since 1837.
We can see why the recipe is such a secret. They're great!!

And the most famous Portuguese
landmark of all -- David Booth's
elementary school in Queijas! David
stopped for a photo by his alma mater.
(Can you tell he let Sarah do this page
on the website?)

Monasterio de Jeronimos (Belem) --
This monastery from the 1500's is filled
with intricate designs that represent
Portugal and navigation. The stained
glass window (bottom right) shows the
Portuguese coat of arms. Inside, we
saw where some famous Portuguese
people are buried, including monarchs,
Luis de Camoes, and Vasco da Gama.
