Dear Pastor and Friends,
pdf. version
Ten years ago, two high school sophomores considered God’s plan for their lives. They were
both surrendered to God’s will and were willing to serve Him anywhere. Since then, God has led
them every step of the way: through Bible college, missionary trips, seminary, graduate school,
and, eventually, to each other…
Looking back over the past decade, we are amazed to see all that God has done to prepare our
lives for His service together:
David: “I’ve had a burden for the country of Portugal since my family moved there to be
missionaries when I was nine years old. Growing up in Portugal, I saw a great need to reach
people there with the gospel. When I think of the Portuguese people, I think of the kids with whom
I went to school, the next-door neighbor, the man who owned the market down the street – all
people who need the Lord. Because I already know the language and culture, I believe God has
uniquely gifted me to serve there.”
Sarah: “I have been interested in teaching and in missions since I was a child. I especially have
a burden for deaf people and children. God has given me the privilege of working with them in the
United States, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Ireland. Now, I look forward to
reaching the people of Portugal.”
Long-term Goals
We believe that God is leading us to spend our lives serving Him in Portugal. Our goals are to
evangelize, plant churches, disciple believers, and reach the deaf. While Portugal is a vastly
unreached and challenging field, we believe that God is already preparing hearts of both hearing
and deaf people to respond to the gospel. We are looking forward to working hard in the ministry
and trusting God to give the increase.
Summer 2008
We have a unique opportunity to minister in Portugal for seven months (June ’08-February ’09).
Missionaries Lionel and Carol Martin have invited us to take care of their mission work at the
while they return home on furlough. We will be able to minister in the church, reach out to the
community, take a semester of language school, and make preparations for when we return to
Portugal. We believe that this seven month internship will better prepare us for deputation and for
future ministry. As only God can do, He has provided all of the funds needed for our trip and 18%
of our long-term, monthly support.
Partner with us
When we arrive back in the United States in February 2009, we will continue our deputation to
return to Portugal as full-time missionaries. Thus, we’re praying that God would lead us to
churches that would partner with us in order to reach that goal.
Pastor, would you consider having us share about our ministry and calling at your church? If so,
please contact us. At this point, our schedule is flexible. We’d be delighted to have the opportunity
to share more about what God is doing in our lives. We’re grateful for you and pray that God will
bless you and your ministry.
In Christ,
David and Sarah Booth
